Course Description
The Gottshall Block is a traditional skill test. It covers all of the cuts adn shapes needed for any joinery. This class takes the block step by step so that anyone can hone their skills and become better with hand tools. You will receive a PDF with the designs so you can make it after the class and practice from time to time.
Tools Needed
Set of chisels
joinery saws, rip, and cross-cut.
square
Miter square (45 degrees)
marking knife
marking gauge
Morticing gauge (optional)
Compass or dividers
Mallet
Materials Needed
One block of wood 3" X 3/4" X 7" long The species of wood is up to you. Pine can be fast but difficult to get sharp. Oak is hard all around, but you learn a lot. Cherry and walnut are a bit easier for most beginners.In-person students will be using scraps of Mahogany.
